New Hyundai i40 will make its world debut on 2011 Geneva Auto Show

The Hyundai i40, essentially a Sonata wagon, will make its world debut on March 1 at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show.
"We have no plans for a Sonata wagon in the U.S.," a Hyundai spokesman told Inside Line on Friday.

The Hyundai i40 wagon will be introduced in Europe this year, with a sedan version to follow, the company said.

GENEVA — The European-designed Hyundai i40 — essentially a Sonata wagon — will make its world debut on March 1 at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. Hyundai described all of those features as "new technologies for Hyundai."

This is the all-new Hyundai i40, the Korean brand's Ford Mondeo-rivalling estate car.

As a premium offering it boasts heated and reclining front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and an active de-mist system that automatically detects and clears mist on the windscreen--The 2011 Geneva Motor Show begins on March 1st.

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd (Hyundai) recently revealed the first pictures of the new i40, ahead of its world premiere at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show which will be set for launch in Europe during the second quarter of this year.

From stunning design and specification, to industry-leading technology and after-sales care, the i40 sets itself apart from its competitors,” said senior vice president and chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, Allan Rushforth.

The i40 would be Hyundai’s first D-segment vehicle to be developed specifically for the European market, with a package of powertrains, equipment and technology tailored for European tastes.

Designed and engineered at Hyundai’s research and development headquarters in Russelsheim, Germany, the i40 model maintained its signature features such as the hexagonal grille.

The ‘modern premium’ concept was also evident in the efficient powertrain choices available to i40 buyers.

2011 Hyundai Veloster

What it is: A small front-drive, four-seat coupe to replace the Tiburon. Hyundai will position the car below the rear-drive Genesis coupe.

Platform: The Hyundai Veloster will share some of its parts with the compact front-drive Accent.
Competition: Ford Focus coupe, Honda Civic coupe, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Scion tC.

The Hyundai Veloster is a front-drive coupe with a pretty sleek profile on the driver's side. Until it dawns on you that the door is shorter than on the driver's side and that there's another door behind it. Hyundai says that - unlike the Mini Clubman - the door arrangement will be properly reversed for us right-hand drivers.
Engine is a 1.6 turbo, and there's a twin-clutch transmission option.

Inside it's got the usual show car touches including multi-part display screens, pod seats and suicide doors. But it also has something Hyundai is introducing on its production cars: BlueLink. This is a fully voice-activated connection pack for phones, music, nav and reading and composing emails.

Hyundai today finally unveiled its eagerly awaited "Hyundai Veloster coupe "at the 2011 North American International Auto Show, aka the Detroit show. We first saw the Veloster as a concept car at the 2007 Seoul motor show.

The Hyundai Coupe slid quietly off sale in 2009, and the Veloster - promised in concept form a couple of years ago - fires the Koreans back into the semi-sporting market. We'll get the new Veloster in Europe, too.

The architecture underpinning the new Veloster is all Hyundai i30. A twin-clutch transmission - Hyundai's first - is also available.
Interestingly, unlike Mini's oddball Clubman, Hyundai has engineered the solitary rear door for left- and right-hand drive. The door handle on the single rear door is cleverly hidden, maintaining the coupe silhouette.

2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan dubbed the R-Spec

Hyundai's Genesis sedan is much improved for 2012, yet its position in the market won't change one bit. The Genesis will continue to give engineers and product planners at Mercedes-Benz and Lexus fits, thanks to the sedan's upgraded V-6 engine, revised suspension tuning, and a new eight-speed automatic transmission -- not to mention the 429-horsepower R-Spec model.

Hyundai expects highway fuel efficiency to increase to 29 mpg, though city fuel economy probably won't stray far from the 2011 model's 18 mpg. Don't be surprised if the 2012 Genesis 3.8 accelerates as fast as a 2011 Genesis V-8.

The real news for the 2012 Genesis is the R-Spec model. Its 5.0-liter V-8 makes 429 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 376 pound-feet of torque at 5000 rpm.

At 2011 Chicago Auto Show Hyundai unveiled a new edition of the the Genesis sedan dubbed the R-Spec, powered by a new 5.0 liter engine developing 430 hp. The highlights of the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec also include unique 19-inch machined-finish alloy wheels, optional Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 summer performance tires and sport-tuned transmission, suspension and steering calibrations for sportiness. Genesis R-Spec only will be offered in three sport-oriented exterior colors: Black Noir, Titanium Gray, and Platinum Metallic, each with Black leather interior and an all-black leather steering wheel for a differentiated sport appearance from the 4.6 model.

All three variants in the 2012 Genesis lineup now get an eight-speed automatic transmission, an upgrade over the old six-speed transmissions offered in the 2011 Genesis.
The 2012 Genesis goes on sale in April.

The refreshed "2012 Hyundai Genesis", including a new 429-horsepower 5.0-liter R-Spec model, debuted on Wednesday at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. Although pricing was not announced on the R-Spec model, expect it to be the most expensive Genesis ever, priced between $45,000 and $50,000, Hyundai told Inside Line.

The R-Spec churns out 44 more hp than the 4.6-liter V8 in the 2011 Genesis--The 2012 Genesis goes on sale in April--Although the EPA has yet to rate the 2012 Genesis, Hyundai said the fuel economy in the R-Spec model will "nearly match" that of the 2011 Genesis 4.6.

The new Elantra Coupe and Azera 2012

According to the latest reports from Automotive News, it appears that Hyundai will launch two new or redesigned models by January 2012. Moreover, the redesigned Azera large sedan will also go on sale next year, in January. Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai’s U.S. sales boss confirmed the fact that the 2012 Azera will be powered by an all-new 3.3-liter, gasoline, direct-injection V6 engine delivering about 260 horsepower.

This engine will be more fuel-efficient than current Azera--When speaking at a dealer meeting in San Francisco, Hyundai said that it would unveil two new models by January 2012. The Hyundai Elantra Coupe will be the first model launched and should arrive in dealerships this spring. The Elantra Coupe should be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show or the New York Auto Show.

The Hyundai Azera will also be redesigned and should be here by January 2012. Hyundai is hoping to sell around 18,000 to 20,000 units of the new Azera, up from the depressing 3,051 units sold in 2010.

Following the Elantra, hyundai plans on introducing the redesigned Azera larges sedan in January 2012. The 2012 Hyundai Azera will be powered by a 3.3L V6 gasoline engine making 260-hp and will be more fuel-efficient than the current model.

Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Elantra returns an EPA rated 28/40 mpg (city/highway). The 40 mpg highway rating is 5 more mpgs than the outgoing Elantra model.

Hyundai will run three TV ads in this weekend's Super Bowl, all supporting the 2011 Elantra and Sonata Hybrid.

The ads for the Elantra continue a theme begun two weeks earlier in the NFL Conference Championship games in which Hyundai is trying to show that the Elantra surpasses expectations most consumers have about compact cars. A third ad, which has already aired, shows a sheep driving an Elantra. This spot will probably get remembered better than the hypnosis Elantra ads.

In what Hyundai likes to call “a group therapy session,” the automaker’s Super Bowl Ads to air for the first time during the Big Game on February 6 will comprise three TV spots aimed at brainwashing consumers into turning their attention towards the company’s 2011 Elantra and Sonata Hybrid models.

Specifically, Hyundai will begin promoting the new Elantra with a spot called "Hypnotized", followed by a healing session with an ad called "Deprogramming". “Hyundai marks its fourth consecutive year as a Super Bowl advertiser by deprogramming 100 million Americans tuned in to watch the game.”

2011 Hyundai Sonata Reviews

the 2011 Hyundai Sonata will not offer a six-cylinder option. According to official EPA numbers, the Sonata earns 24 miles per gallon city and 35 mpg highway with the manual transmission and 22 mpg city and 35 mpg highway with the automatic. Hyundai is offering three trim levels (GLS, SE and Limited) for the 2011 Sonata and several equipment packages. The SE model starts with the automatic transmission, cloth upholstery, sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels and differentiating trim. Hyundai will never claim the Sonata is a four-door sports car. Fuel economy will undoubtedly draw consumers to the new Sonata.

Derivative or not, the Sonata's looks got people talking and necks turning wherever we went--As an SE model, our Sonata featured leather-trimmed seats with cloth center inserts and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter meant to evoke a sporting feel. Factor in the great cabin technology suite and the Sonata's driver seat isn't an unpleasant place to be.

An optional touch-screen navigation system that helps drivers to get from point A to B lives at the top of the center stack. The system also features graphic lane guidance--which illustrates upcoming turns with lane data--and text-to-speech turn-by-turn directions.

The standard XM Satellite Radio connection pulls in XM traffic, weather, stocks, and sports data. When routing, if the navigation system sees heavy traffic or an obstruction, it will attempt to route around it.

A voice command feature allows you to enter addresses and search for POIs via voice. The system displays prompts on the color touch screen to assist you in using valid commands and to display options when the system is unclear what street you meant.
Al"l Hyundai Sonatas feature standard Bluetooth connectivity". Once paired, the hands-free system automatically downloads your phone's address book for voice-activated dialing. Bluetooth A2DP streaming is also enabled as an audio source if supported by the paired device.

Air-conditioning is standard on all models except the Blue edition. Sportier touches are offered with the SE, such as a B&M shifter, standard cruise control, and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls.

Driver and passenger front airbags are standard, along with side impact airbags and front and rear head curtains. Disc and drum brakes are standard. ABS isn't available with the Blue edition, is standard with the SE, and is optional otherwise.

The 2011 Hyundai Accent costs many thousands less than a typical late-model used car, and that's a significant part of its appeal. With a base price of $9,985, not including destination, the Accent is again the lowest-priced car in the U.S. market, and comes in three-door hatchback or four-door sedan models.
All 2011 Hyundai Accent models remain powered by a 110-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, driving the front wheels. However running costs are low, and the Accent has enough power for most commuting needs.

The Hyundai Accent is $15 shy of $10,000, and there are few affordable small cars that match this low base price. The three-door Accent doesn’t come with air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel or an audio system. By the time you add these features, the "Hyundai Accent" will cost nearly $14,000 for the GS trim. If you’re looking for a car that’s safer than the Accent but costs less than the Forte, look at the Toyota Yaris--The 2011 Hyundai Accent comes in three and four-door models. Last year Hyundai offered the Accent Blue; it’s unavailable this year--A redesigned Hyundai Accent debuts in 2012.

Detroit Motor Shownew Hyundai Veloster hatchback

Another standout car at this year’s Detroit Motor Show has to be Hyundai’s funky new Hyundai Veloster hatchback. Certain to entice members of the Fast & Furious generation with its high shoulder line, aggressive front grille and muscular rear apron, this out-and-out MINI Cooper rival comes equipped with a 1.6 turbocharged engine that puffs out a useful 102 kilowatts of power and some 166Nm worth of torque.

In particular, Hyundai will produce two different bodies for left and right-hand drive versions; BMW drew criticism when it optimised the Clubman for LHD, leaving rear seat passengers to exit RHD cars into traffic, rather than on the pavement side of the car. Also, where the Clubman's single rear side door is a small, rear-hinged affair, the Hyundai's appears to be a conventional full-sized, forward-hinged item.

Initially, the new car will be available with a 1.6-litre petrol engine in 140 horsepower and 208 horsepower (turbocharged) forms, and a DSG-style semi-automatic gearbox.
On the inside, Hyundai emphasizes a similar approach to innovation, perhaps best displayed in the car's sound system. A driver-configurable seven-inch touchscreen is the gateway to the Veloster's audio functionality, and can also be used for other vehicle systems including an available nav system (with integrated rearview camera) and Hyundai's new Blue Link telematics platform. Significantly, all this is delivered via Blue Link's agent-assisted voice-recognition technology, which combines the advantages of both automatic voice-recogntion capabilities and live Hyundai advisers.As expected in a sporty coupe, the Hyundai Veloster will offer responsive performance, courtesy of Hyundai's Gamma 1.6-liter I4 engine. Veloster drivers will have a choice of two transmissions, including the automaker's proprietary dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission, which offers the control of a manual gearbox and the efficiency of an automatic. “Today, customers do not believe that expensive cars with unnecessary technology are premium,” said Hyundai Vice Chairman Euisun Chung, speaking in Detroit.

2012 Hyundai Veloster Debuts in Detroit, Eyes Honda CR-Z, Scion tC and MINI

[Updated Photo Gallery] What started out as the Veloster concept model at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show has come to life as a production model at this week's 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Unlike most other production models that tend to be more conventional than their conceptual siblings, Hyundai's Veloster is actually more outlandish than the 2007 design study thanks to its asymmetric layout with a single door on the driver's side and two conventional doors on the passenger-side.

Hyundai is bullish about the Veloster's rivals as the company released several comparison charts pitting the small coupe against the 2011 Honda CR-Z, Scion tC, Mini Hardtop and Mini Clubman.

According to the South Koreans, the Veloster’s total interior volume of 105.3 cubic feet beats all the aforementioned models, while the automaker also notes that at just 2,584 pounds, its small coupe is more than 400 pounds lighter than the Scion tC.

The company claims the Veloster's exterior design takes inspiration from a high-performance sport bike, while inside, the center stack and controls are said to resemble a sport bike fuel tank and incorporate an available push-button starter. Hyundai added that the air vents are inspired by motorcycle tailpipes, while the floor console mirrors the seat of a bike.

The Veloster rides on a 104.3-inch wheelbase, with an overall length of 166.1 inches and width of 70.5 inches.

At launch and at least in North America, Hyundai's compact offering will be offered with an all-new 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine featuring Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology. It produces an estimated peak output of 138 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and maximum torque of 123 lb.-ft. at 4,850 rpm, and can combined with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an all-new, six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) developed by Hyundai.

The South Korean automaker said the Veloster will return an estimated highway fuel economy of up to 40 mpg.
